A long lasting tradition
Poderi di Carlo brand is a tribute to the traditional viticulture of Friuli – Venezia Giulia, the northeastern region of Italy on the border with Austria and Slovenia. This tradition was established during the past centuries when our ancestors cultivated with passion and expertise historical parcels of land. Even without modern technologies and machinery, our predecessors knew how to choose the best hills, slopes and vineyards suitable to coaxing the most out of the different grape varieties. Their wines were known and appreciated outside the local borders, so much so that they reached the tables of emperors and nobles.
Poderi (meaning “farms” in Italian) is also a way for us to underline and reaffirm the farmers’ family tradition of sustaining themselves by growing grapevines, as well as other agricultural products, initially on small parcels of land for their domestic use only. Later on, farmers cultivated grapes as a trade commodity while, in recent times, viticulture become a real business.
The Future
In 2020 began the partnership with LEA WINERY, a sustainable, innovative and quality-oriented grape-grower and winemaker. The estate vineyards span about 100hectares and are completely owned and cultivated by the company’s capable viticulture and winemaking team. The estate is certified SQNPI (National Quality System of Integrated Production) which is aimed to guarantee the economic viability of agricultural practices with a low environmental impact. In addition, we are in the midst of total conversion to the organic viticulture. These practices allow us to guarantee the entire production process, from the vineyard to the bottle.
LEA WINERY represents a breakthrough for Poderi di Carlo and will play a key role in strengthening and growing the brand.
